The Science of Robosapien

In a nutshell, Robosapien looks old school compared to the boxes on wheels, a clear head dome. 'Oh,' you say, it looks like a muscled storm trooper and the kind of fart button now that is a hoot. We nod in polite agreement, but behind your back, we snicker your total lack of appreciation of the advanced robotic theory involved.

Robosapien today a turning point in the development of robotics and the first robot based on science applied biomorphic robotics. (This is what you have to tell friends and family all the time does not show it, funny cat chasing ability.) Biomorphic robotics stems from Mark Tilden innovative new concepts BEAM technology.

Kind of a new philosophy of the BEAM robot is an acronym for Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics and Mechanics. Dr. Mark W. Tilden founded this relatively new branch of robotic sciences in 1989, based on the premise that behavioral-rich robots need not only the immensely complex projects to maintain a well-funded laboratories and cartoon villains.

In other words, the traditional approach to the development of robots started up a sophisticated brain to maneuver the mechanics of the body. While not excluding the incredible engineering feats of robots built so that, in particular, Sony and Honda's ASIMO Qrio, Mark Tilden strongly contends that this is a bad approach to take.

It's like trying to emulate a man, when the modern technology and research can not realistically copy the error of your garden. '[It] is an evolutionary dead end,' says Tilden. BEAM robotics is about taking from the bottom up, starting to learn that simple bug and moving up from there.

Instead of trying to create a centralized robo-brain to process all the input variables and spit out the decision (much, much harder than you think), why not use the system known as 'subsumption architecture.''Subsumption architecture is a clever technique where the action s of a robot managed by the layers, each layer is one factor in the control of robot operation.

For example, a low-level layer can be 'Walk Forward, 'which is the robot's happy as long as it bumps into something. At this point, a slightly higher level 'Lift Leg higher 'kicks in, overriding the' Walk Forward 'layer until the robot successfully climbs over the barrier, and then' Lift Leg major 'stops, and the low-level' Walk Forward 'takes over again. *

Egocentric Bugs

So, Tilden began a robot bugs on this principle, and selfish creature had been excluded.

Why? Well, Tilden decided that Asimov's famous Three Laws of Robotics:

1st It did not hurt people.

2nd Listen to human unless said, 'It does not hurt the human.'

3rd Try to live on.

were outdated concepts that left no room for a good joke by the parties.

So one dark and stormy night, penned in Tilden Three Laws of Robotics:

1st A robot must protect its existence at all.

2nd A robot must obtain and maintain an access to a power source.

3rd The robots are continuously looking for better energy sources.

informally known as *:

1st Protect thy ass.

2nd Feed thy ass.

3rd Move your ass to make better real estate.

1st He justified this robotic statement of self-interest as the only way for robots start to grow as people may have been guppies looking for a good time to leave the ocean.

Errors, Sapiens

Need to find the lighter-minded group of people in his government and NASA days, Tilden decided that he should go and join the game company. Who better than a bold to proclaim themselves, Wow Wee! There was a big game, and we started working on dinosaur games, and error basis Tilden now recognized as an expert.

Then came the captain, that the project could say would change the landscape quite a total of robotics. FartDude, later named Robosapien after the initial market test was the culmination of Tilden's work and finally bringing to bear a humanoid (Sapien-like, if you like) robot is capable of an impressive list of moves and a rough voice.

The Robosapien, you see the foundations BEAM philosophy and technological research. It follows the B as a biomorphic rendition of people, this is the fact y ou can not throw up a bathtub, because it is a stylin the latest magazine covers, and a heck of a lot of M going to the robo dancing capability.

That Mr. Sapien

Like no robot ever, the Robosapien is affordable to the unwashed masses. The Robosapien is a crowning achievement, when the mobility, consumption, programmability, and perhaps most importantly, hackability.

Each arm of the full 360 motion ability allowed by the, ahem, biomorphic shoulder joints and flexible elbows. Ending in three articulated fingers, Robosapien is capable picking up, gripping, and throwing objects. The original full walking motion (most of the robot does not really go out of the lab) is also possible to design the big feet and well-placed sensors.

And you know how much power it usually takes to run a robot Fuggedabowdit. Regular robots dishonest little battery-eaters always hungry for more, more, More! And who will pay for these ite ms, hmmm 'Well Robosapien is no shame to itself when consuming power, most notably the astounding mechanical physics. It runs the full 60-10 hours for a set element. In fact, if you move Robosapien's arm you might actually create it! Hey man, this is tricky.

For those who want a robot that will fetch you a cold one in the kitchen, you lazy bums will just have to wait until later. But then the program Robosapien to do some pretty cools things in the meantime, look around as a swing on things, guarding your bedroom while you sleep, and a hilarious game of 'pull my finger '. Try teaching your dog that trick with a clever boy.

So what's so hot about hackability, and that even a word, you ask? You have a nerve. Tilden went through some serious, serious efforts should be made to the robot fans can separate the robots, as he had as a child, and tinker modifications. Each color-coded in it, to make things easy for those without PhDs, and all account s, a lot of additional room and power to accommodate that Frankenstein thing to think about. There are whole books on the subject would want to learn, so go ahead and hack away. If it's a good, send it in and we will publish all the models and did not applaud too.

And one more thing

So the next time you see a Robosapien to respectfully nods to the world's first robot based on science applied biomorphic robotics. Then go chase a cat with her.
